View island builds →Standard backsplash
A standard backsplash runs from the countertop surface to the underside of the upper cabinet — typically 100mm to 150mm tall. It covers the gap between the counter and the wall tile or plaster, protects the wall from moisture and splashing, and continues the timber material upward.
Standard backsplashes are made in the same species and finish as the countertop. Where possible we select from the same batch so the grain character and colour are consistent across both surfaces.
Full height backsplash
A full height backsplash replaces the tile or other wall material between the counter and the underside of the upper cabinets — the full height of the wall space. This is a more significant design choice and typically suits kitchens where a coherent, all-timber aesthetic is the intention. More on full height backsplashes →
Finish and moisture
Backsplashes in areas near the sink or hob benefit from a fully sealed finish — satin or gloss. The back face of the backsplash (against the wall) should also be finished to prevent uneven moisture absorption that can cause cupping over time. All surfaces including the back face receive the specified finish before despatch.
